LA Phil in Communities

With its superb musicians and outstanding administrative and production capabilities, the Los Angeles Philharmonic offers a broad spectrum of musical activities designed to engage, educate, enliven and enrich our community.
Community Partnership Program
The Community Partnership Program (CPP) is designed to concentrate education and community resources within a community of Los Angeles. For a number of years, the community has been Pico Union neighborhood, a community fifteen minutes west of downtown. Neighborhood Concerts, community adult school programs, instrumental instruction offered in after-school settings and during the school day have been its hallmarks. The program will be linked with a new initiative of the LA Phil to create youth orchestras in underserved areas of LA County, beginning in 2008.
Neighborhood Concerts
Neighborhood Concerts are given free of charge, performances taking place in schools, churches, and other local community venues.
Community Concerts
Outside of Walt Disney Concert Hall, every year the Philharmonic also performs a number of Community Concerts throughout southern California.
Los Angeles Philharmonic Neighborhood Concerts are made possible, in part, by funding provided by:
- William Randolph Hearst Foundation
- The Korea Times
- David and Linda Shaheen Foundation
- Los Angeles County Arts Commission
- Sony Pictures Entertainment
Community Concert Connections
Through Community Concert Connections, the Los Angeles Philharmonic distributes complimentary concert tickets to organizations that work with individuals in need, and families, youth and seniors who otherwise could not attend concerts. 501c(3) organizations submit a brief application describing whom they serve, and, once accepted, receive a set of concert dates from which to request complimentary tickets. In the winter season, tickets are offered for the Sounds About Town youth orchestra concerts in Walt Disney Concert Hall. At the Hollywood Bowl, more than 30,000 complimentary tickets are offered for Tuesday and Thursday LA Philharmonic concerts. (There is a modest service charge for handling the ticket requests.)
About one hundred organizations actively participate in the program. Organizations that participate in Community Concert Connections include senior centers, health service providers, homeless shelters, adult schools, AIDS service centers, foster care organizations, Boys & Girls Clubs, Big Sister organizations, religious organizations, recreation centers, etc.
If you are involved with a community organization that you would like to inform about Community Concert Connections, please email the organization's complete contact information and return to lboorstin@laphil.org so that an application can be mailed to them.
Community Concert Connections is supported by the City of Los Angeles, Department of Cultural Affairs.
Los Angeles Philharmonic Community Advisory Committee
Dedicated to serving the community, the Los Angeles Philharmonic receives valuable guidance from the Community Advisory Committee. Free Neighborhood Concerts, Community Partnership Program, Community Concert Connections, and other programs maintain involvement in the increasingly diverse communities of greater Los Angeles.
