YOLA Neighborhood Project: K-6 in-school residencies

Students at Camino Nuevo Charter Academy
The Mission of the School Partners Program is to engage students in high quality music learning experiences and to increase support for music education at the school level.
YOLA Neighborhood Project: K-6 in-school residencies
The YNP K-6 residencies complement existing music education efforts in schools close to the two YOLA Teaching Sites. Using VAPA standards and LAUSD’s newly adopted Core Curriculum Standards, Los Angeles Philharmonic musicians and Teaching Artists teach students about the orchestra, community, history, and more, with a focus on classical repertoire. Teaching Artists work collaboratively with classroom teachers, finding connections between the music curriculum and the VAPA & Common Core Standards. Students work on multi-week projects that give them opportunities to create and experience music. Additionally, all K-2 students will perform for thousands of community members at the LA Cathedral during the wonderful YOLA YNP Day; the 3-6 grade residency culminates in a school-day field trip to Walt Disney Concert Hall to hear a performance by the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
