2010/11 Online Season Announcement!

We are announcing Gustavo’s second season as Music Director of the LA Phil in our first ever online-only season announcement on Tuesday, February 16 at 10am Pacific! The announcement will feature video of Gustavo and Los Angeles Philharmonic President Deborah Borda (recorded in Caracas, Venezuela) along with special guests John Adams, Herbie Hancock, and Thomas Adès.

Gustavo’s first season as Music Director of the LA Phil launched a remarkable relationship with the orchestra, and through this exceptional chemistry you experience the music with fresh ears. Gustavo will lead more concerts in the 2010/11 season, which of course means more opportunities to experience the extraordinary energy he brings to every performance.

The 2010/11 season also includes two weeks of dramatic performances by Conductor Laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen. Of his return Salonen said “When trying to imagine my return to the Los Angeles Philharmonic after 18 months I realized much to my surprise how organic and natural the idea felt. Therefore I decided to avoid a grand gesture (I’m not very good at that anyway), and simply come back to continue a project spanning already over several decades, now in a different capacity. I also understood how much I miss everybody, the Orchestra, staff and the audience. And the hall.”

Visit LAPhil.com/PressConference on Tuesday, February 16 at 10am Pacific.

The piece describes the tremendous enthusiasm with which Gustavo has been received in his newly adopted city. Of the attention surrounding him Gustavo says “the main thing is, for me, music education, my family and, I think, I don’t know how is in English — humility? Humility is nothing you can learn. You are born with humility or no.”
