From his early years as an Adler Fellow with the San Francisco Opera, Mexican tenor ALFREDO PORTILLA has gone on to sing major leading roles around the world. Highlights of this season include performances in the New Israeli Opera production of Tosca (also in Bologna, Modena, and Piacenza, Italy). He also sang with the Washington Opera in their production of Tosca. Portilla sings Cavaradossi with the New York City Opera including a Live from Lincoln Center telecast on March 29, 2000, before returning to sing La bohème in his debut at the Metropolitan Opera. In addition to his operatic repertoire, Portilla has performed extensively in concert, most notably in his native Mexico, with such esteemed orchestras as the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional, La Filarmónica de la Ciudad de Mexico and the Orquesta de la Ópera de Bellas Artes. He makes his Hollywood Bowl debut this summer.
