ANNA LUCHIA RICHTER descends from a family of professional musicians. Since the age of nine she received singing lessons from her mother Regina Dohmen and became member of the Girls’ Choir of the Cologne Cathedral. From 2004 to 2008 she received regular lessons with Prof. Kurt Widmer, Basel. Following her early studies with Klesie Kelly-Moog at the Cologne Music Academy, she continued her studies in Cologne and finished her advanced study period with first-class honors in the summer of 2013. The artist won prizes at the National Song Contest in Berlin, the Luitpold Prize at the Kissinger Summer Festival 2011, and the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Prize in 2011. In 2012 she won the International Robert-Schumann Contest in Zwickau. In 2014 she received the promotional prize for young artists of North Rhine-Westphalia.
During engagements with Cologne’s Gürzenich Orchestra, the hr-Sinfonieorchester, with the MDR Symphony Orchestra, with the Düsseldorf Symphonic Orchestra and also with the WDR Radio Orchestra and the Baroque Orchestra Freiburg, she sang under the baton of Markus Stenz, Paavo and Kristjan Järvi, Marin Alsop, Axel Kober, Pablo Heras-Casado, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, and Iván Fischer. On the opera stage the soprano performed, among others, in Hänsel und Gretel (Sandmann/Taumann), Le nozze di Figaro (Barbarina), Don Giovanni (Zerlina), and Monteverdi’s Orfeo (Eurydice/La Musica).
Anna Lucia Richter is passionately fond of songs. She already has a wide variety of repertoire and regularly sings recitals, for instance at the Kissinger Summer Festival, at the Heidelberg Spring Festival, Cologne Philharmonic Hall, Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, and in London’s Wigmore Hall. She made her debut in the U.S. with three recitals in New York’s Park Avenue Armory, accompanied by Gerold Huber. Further piano partners are Michael Gees and Nicholas Rimmer. She regularly performs with András Schiff at his festival in Vicenza. Besides standard repertoire, the artist also enjoys adding improvisations and contemporary music compositions to her Lied program: for instance the world premiere of Moritz Eggert’s work Singet leise and Wolfgang Rihm’s cycle Ophelia Sings, which he composed especially for her. In the fall of 2015 her first Lied-CD will be issued with Eichendorff scorings and improvisations, accompanied by Michael Gees.
Her 2015/16 season begins with Mahler’s Fourth Symphony under the baton of Bernard Haitink at the Lucerne Festival, followed by concerts in London and Tokyo with the London Symphony Orchestra. In the fall she performs with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the San Francisco Symphony under the baton of András Schiff. She will guest with Iván Fischer at the Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra and the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest Amsterdam and under Reinhard Goebel at the Staatskapelle Dresden. On the opera stage she can be heard in Essen as Pamina for the first time and in Lille again as Eurydice and La Musica in Sasha Waltz’s Orfeo. Recitals lead her, among other performances, to London, Vienna, Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, and to the Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival.
