Heir of the best Italian vocal tradition, CARMELA REMIGIO began her studies with Aldo Protti and completed with Leone Magiera. After winning in 1992 the “Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition” in Philadelphia, she made his debut, aged nineteen, in the role of the protagonist of “Alice” by G.P. Testoni at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo.

After the first engagements in roles of the baroque repertoire, she started a rising career also thanks to the Mozart roles which were of particular importance to international acclaim: Vitellia in La clemenza

di Tito, Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Elettra and Ilia nell’Idomeneo and, in particular, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, a role that gave her the opportunity to work with Claudio Abbado and Peter Brook.

Since then prestigious meetings have multiplied: she sang many times under the direction of Claudio Abbado, Lorin Maazel, Myung-Whun Chung, Antonio Pappano, Roberto Abbado, Jeffery Tate, Daniel Harding, Michel Plasson, Gustavo Dudamel, Eliahu Inbal, Riccardi Chailly etc..

The Verdi debuts, Alice in Falstaff, Desdemona in Otello, Missa da Requiem, Amelia in Simon Boccanegra and Violetta in La Traviata, always under the direction of very prestigious batons, have opened new horizons in the field of Romantic repertoire, confirming the vocal and stage talent. From the Puccini’s repertoire she played the role of Mimì in La Bohème and has starred in Tosca. Lateron she debuted her first role from the Donizetti’s repertoire, Maria Stuarda.

She debuted with great success the roles of Micaela (Carmen) and Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare) at the Carlo Felice in Genoa, Marguerite (Faust) to Verdi in Trieste, Anne (The Rake's Progress) at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Malwina (Der Vampyr) at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) in Rieti and Macerata, conducted by Kent Nagano.

The complete voice and musicality allow her to excel in the chamber repertoire as well, sacred and profane: she is frequently invited in the most prestigious concert halls.

Among the many recordings there are the two editions of Don Giovanni (Donna Anna), one directed by Claudio Abbado (DGG) and the other by Daniel Harding (Virgin), Rossini's Stabat Mater under the baton of Gianluigi Gelmetti (Agorà), Arie Sacre Verdiane conducted by Myung-Whun Chung (DGG), a double CD titled "Arias" (Universal-Decca) dedicated to Tosti and Rossini.

Among her recent and future engagements: the debut as Elisabetta in Roberto Devereux at the Opera of Rome, Così fan tutte (Fiordiligi) in Ancona, Macerata and Turin, Don Giovanni (Donna Anna) at Royal Opera House in London and in concert at the Los Angeles Philharmonic, (Donna Elvira) in Bologna and in Venice at Teatro la Fenice, the debut as Norma at Petruzzelli Theatre of Bari, La Bohème (Mimì) at Opera of Rome and in Florence, Le Nozze di Figaro (la Contessa) in Venice and Lausanne.
