Violinist CHAO-HUA JIN joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic in September 1999. Since then she has performed regularly on the Philharmonic's Chamber Music Society series and at Green Umbrella concerts as a member of the Philharmonic New Music Group. Prior to joining the Los Angeles Philharmonic, she performed frequently with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and took part in their Berlin tour in April 1999.

She was invited to perform as guest principal second violin with the China National Philharmonic at the New Millennium Gala Concert on December 31, 1999; the concert was televised nationally by CCTV. Subsequently, she performed two chamber music concerts with musicians from around the world in Shanghai and Dalian as part of the New Millennium Celebration.

Jin is an active chamber musician and has performed chamber music in such music festivals as Taos, Grand Teton, and Musicoda. As the recipient of the Alexander Schneider Memorial Award she performed Haydn's string quartet "The Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross" with Masuko Ushioda, Scott Nickrenz, and Laurence Lesser.

A native of Beijing, China, Jin began violin studies at age six with her father, chief editor of Beijing Music Weekly and an amateur violinist. She attended the Central Conservatory of Music from 1981 to 1989. She was a prizewinner at the China National Youth Violin Competition in September 1984. She continued her training in the U.S. at the New England Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Masuko Ushioda and James Buswell, and coached with Louis Krasner and Eugene Lehner. She earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the New England Conservatory of Music in 1995.
