An exclusive recording artist for Sony Classical Masterworks, DANIEL TAYLOR is one of the most sought-after countertenors in the world. He has made more than 90 recordings, including Bach Cantatas with the English Baroque Soloists/Gardiner (DG Archiv), Handel’s Rinaldo (winner Gramophone Award) with Bartoli /AAM/Hogwood, Sakamoto’s pop-opera Life with the Dalai Lama narrating (Sony), and Bach Cantatas with the Bach Collegium Japan /Suzuki (BIS).

Taylor’s debut at Glyndebourne in Handel's Theodora (recorded for Erato) was greeted with critical praise and followed on his operatic debut in Jonathan Miller's production of Rodelinda (for EMI). His North American opera debut came in Handel’s Cesare at the New York Metropolitan Opera.

Daniel Taylor is recognized as “Canada’s star countertenor.” Highlights of past engagements include Handel’s Messiah with San Francisco Symphony and St. Louis Symphony (both with Harry Christophers); the New York Philharmonic/Helmuth Rilling; Handel’s Israel in Egypt with the Cleveland Orchestra/McGegan; Orff’s Carmina Burana with the Toronto Symphony/Oundjian; Bach Christmas Oratorio with the National Arts Centre/Pinnock; Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms with the Philadelphia Orchestra/Dutoit; Handel’s Saul with Bachakademie Stuttgart/Rilling (for Hänssler Classics); and Schnittke’s Faust Cantata with the Rotterdam Philharmonic/Gergiev. With the Gabrieli Consort/McCreesh, Taylor toured Europe in Purcell’s odes, appeared in recital on Polish Television, and toured Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas; he also appeared in the Bach Christmas Oratorio with the Tonhalle Zurich Orchestra/McCreesh. With the Monteverdi Choir/Gardiner, Taylor appeared in Handel’s Israel in Egypt on British Television at the BBC Proms, returning to the BBC Proms in recital with the Berlin Akamus.

In recent seasons Taylor made his debuts with the Israel Philharmonic and the Madrid National Orchestra, and returned to the St. Louis Symphony, to Boston’s Handel & Haydn Society, to the Nashville, San Diego, and San Francisco symphonies, and to the Calgary Philharmonic, the Toronto Symphony, and the Quebec Symphony. He toured Europe with the Academy of Ancient Music, appeared in recital at Wigmore Hall, and in concerts with the Gabrieli Consort and the Bach Academy of Stuttgart. Taylor also made his solo recital debuts in Barcelona at the Palau de la Musica, and at New York’s Carnegie Hall.

Taylor is Professor of Voice at the University of Toronto, Professor of Voice at the University of Ottawa, an Adjunct Professor at McGill University, and a Visiting Scholar at the University of Victoria. Taylor is Artistic Director and Conductor of the Choir and Orchestra of the Theatre of Early Music, which performs more than 30 concerts every year in concert halls all over the world..
