Eric Overholt
Horns Associate Principal
ERIC OVERHOLT, Associate Principal Horn with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, has enjoyed an active and exciting career. He comes to LA having held the position of Acting Associate Principal Horn in both the Cincinnati and Houston Symphonies. While with Cincinnati, he toured Europe, China and Singapore and performed on multiple recordings. He has also held Principal Horn positions in the Louisville Orchestra, Savannah Symphony, and the Glimmerglass Opera Orchestra.
Overholt has also been in demand as a visiting performer in orchestras across the country. A recurrent guest with the Cleveland Orchestra, he has appeared with them both in Cleveland and on tour at the Musikverein in Vienna. He also performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra both in Philadelphia and at Carnegie Hall in New York. Other notable engagements have included Guest Principal Horn with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Phoenix Symphony.
While earning a Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School in New York, Overholt studied with acclaimed horn instructor and performer Julie Landsman, Principal Horn with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. He also holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Baylor University in Texas. Overholt augmented his studies, both privately and as part of the Kent-Blossom Festival, under the instruction of Richard King, Principal Horn of the Cleveland Orchestra.
In addition to performing, Overholt has always tried to maintain an active private studio, teaching students of all ages from middle school through post-graduate levels. In his free time, he enjoys computers and electronics as well as building and flying RC model airplanes.
After living in five different cities in the past eight years, he and his wife Dedra are excited to put down roots in the Los Angeles area.
