About the performer
Gerald Clayton
Pianist GERALD CLAYTON, son of John and nephew of Jeff, is one of jazz's brightest emerging stars. At 23, he plays with the command and presence of a veteran - not surprising given his family background. He studied classical piano with Linda Buck and jazz piano and composition with Shelley Berg, Kenny Barron, and Billy Childs. His many awards include Outstanding Soloist during the Monterey High School Jazz Competitions in 2001 and 2002. In the summer of 2002, he was named Presidential Scholar in the Arts and was invited to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. He has recently been touring worldwide with the Roy Hargrove Quintet.
