About the performer

Marcus Haddock

Marcus Haddock

MARCUS HADDOCK's beautiful voice and beguiling stage presence have earned him international distinction. He is a leading tenor with many of the finest companies in the world, including the Paris Opera, La Scala, Bavarian State Opera, Metropolitan Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the Liceu of Barcelona.

Haddock's current season began with performances of Riccardo in Un ballo in maschera at the Opera Company of Philadelphia. He returned to Dallas Opera for performances of the title role in Les contes d'Hoffmann before singing Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos and the Detroit Symphony. At the Los Angeles Opera this season, Haddock sang the role of Lensky in Eugene Onegin. He sang Don José in Carmen, at the Bavarian State Opera, and later in the season for his debut at the Houston Grand Opera. Following performances of Rodolfo in La bohème at the Fort Worth Opera, he sings Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Haddock sings the title role of Werther at the Vienna State Opera and concludes his season with his company debut at the San Francisco Opera as Riccardo in their production of Un ballo in maschera.

In Europe Marcus Haddock's operatic engagements have included the title role in Werther at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the title role in Faust at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Pinkerton in Geneva, the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto and Riccardo in Un ballo in maschera with the Flanders Opera in Antwerp, and Alfredo with both Netherlands Opera and - conducted by Plácido Domingo - the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville.

Haddock has also enjoyed great success on the concert stage, where he has collaborated with such groups as the Boston Symphony, the Hungarian Philharmonic, the Bochum Symphony, and the Cologne Philharmonic. He can be heard on recordings of Montemezzi's L'amore dei tre re on Koch/Schwann, Mercadante's Gli Orazi e i Curiazi with the London Philharmonic on the Opera Rara label, Gomes' Il Guarany with Oper der Stadt Bonn on Sony Classical, and the title role in Werther with the Orchestre de Lille on Naxos.
