About the performer

Martin Pakledinaz

MARTIN PAKLEDINAZ (costume design) has collaborated with Peter Sellars on three works by Kaija Saariaho with librettos by Amin Maalouf — La Passion de Simone and the operas L’Amour de loin (Salzburg, Paris, Helsinki, Sante Fe) and Adriana Mater (Paris, Helsinki, Sante Fe). They have also worked together on the acclaimed Tristan und Isolde for the Paris Opera, with video by Bill Viola and starring Ben Heppner and Waltraud Meier.

Recent credits include Romeo & Juliet, on Motifs of Shakespeare (Mark Morris Dance Group at Bard College); the Broadway revivals of Gypsy, starring Patti LuPone and directed by Arthur Laurents (2008 Tony nomination), and Grease, directed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall; Stephen Wadsworth’s production of Iphigénie en Tauride (co-production of the Metropolitan and Seattle Operas); Vanessa, directed by Michael Kahn (New York City Opera); Is He Dead?, by Mark Twain, adapted by David Ives and directed by Michael Blakemore; and William Walton’s Troilus and Cressida for the Opera Theater of St. Louis, directed by Stephen Lawless.

Pakledinaz’s Broadway credits include The Pirate Queen, The Pajama Game (2006 Tony nomination), Thoroughly Modern Millie (2002 Tony Award), Kiss Me, Kate (2000 Tony Award), Wonderful Town, Golden Child (1998 Tony nomination), and The Life (1997 Tony and Drama Desk nominations), among others.

Martin Pakledinaz has designed for numerous dance companies, including the New York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and Boston Ballet. He has especially connected with Mark Morris and the Mark Morris Dance Group, with works such as The Hard Nut and Mozart Dances for Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival and Vienna’s New Crowned Hope.
