The overnight success of the tenor PAVOL BRESLIK began in 2005 when he was chosen as the “Most Promising Singer of the Year” in a critics’ survey in the magazine Opernwelt. Following his formal training at the Conservatory in Bratislava and the Opera Studio CNIPAL in Marseilles, the artist was a member of the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden, where among other parts he was heard as Ferrando (Così fan tutte), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore), Vanya Kudryas (Katya Kabanová), and God’s Fool (Boris Godunov). During this period, he gave guest performances of his Mozart roles at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, the Piccolo Teatro in Milan, Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, the Glyndebourne Festival, the Wiener Festwochen, and the Aix-en-Provence Festival. At the Paris Théâtre du Châtelet, he debuted as Jacquino in Fidelio.

Following his residency in Berlin in 2006, Mr. Breslik expanded his Mozart repertoire adding both Belmonte (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) and Idamante (Idomeneo). As Don Ottavio the artist has performed at the Salzburg Festival and at the Metropolitan Opera, as Alfred (Die Fledermaus) at the Geneva Grand Théâtre, as Tamino at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, as the Evangelist in Bach’s Johannes Passion in Théâtre du Châtelet, and as Idamante and Lensky (Eugene Onegin) at the Bavarian State Opera Munich. Also at the Bavarian State Opera, Mr. Breslik appeared opposite Edita Gruberova, giving his début performance as Gennaro in Christof Loy’s acclaimed new production of Donizetti’s Lucrezia Borgia. Highlights of the recent past also include Eugene Onegin at the Vienna State Opera, Lulu at the Salzburg Festival, La Traviata and Otello for the Bavarian State Opera, Macbeth at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and Così fan tutte at Covent Garden as well as at the Metropolitan Opera.

A frequent concert artist, Pavol Breslik has performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under Kurt Masur in Janá?ek’s Glagolitic Mass, with the Concert d’Astrée under Emmanuelle Haïm in London and in Paris in Handel’s Il trionfo del tempo (commercially available on CD for Virgin Classics), and at the Edinburgh Festival in Beethoven’s Mass in C and in Christus am Ölberg. Under Kurt Masur he also performed in the premiere of Siegfried Matthus’ Te Deum with the Orchestre National de France and, with Sir Colin Davis, he has performed Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with the London Symphony Orchestra. The artist has presented Berlioz’ La Messe Solennelle and Roméo et Juliette with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Riccardo Muti, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra conducted by Riccardo Chailly, and has performed and recorded the original version of Dvo?ák’s Stabat Mater with the Ensemble Accentus (commercially available on the Naïve label).

Engagements of the present and future seasons include Die Zauberflöte at the Paris Opéra and the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Eugene Onegin at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Berlin, Munich, and Vienna State Operas, and Don Giovanni at Covent Garden as well as with Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
