About the performer

Susan Egan

Susan Egan

On Broadway, SUSAN EGAN recently starred in the title role of Thoroughly Modern Millie; she has won extensive critical acclaim as Sally Bowles in Cabaret, originated the starring roles in Triumph of Love and State Fair, and most notably, received both Tony Award® and Drama Desk® nominations as the original Belle in Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Among her regional credits, Egan starred alongside Carol Burnett in Putting It Together at the Mark Taper Forum, Tommy Tune in the national tour of Bye Birdie, and reprised her role of Belle for the Los Angeles premiere of Beauty and the Beast. She has also performed in concert with dozens of symphony orchestras across the country including two engagements at the Hollywood Bowl.

Susan has been busy in film, having just completed principal shooting for The Third Wish, and working last year on: the ensemble indie Meet Market (Sarasota Film Festival, 2004), the mockumentory Death and Texas (Seattle Film Festival and Slamdance Film Festival, 2004), the road picture The Almost Guys (HBO Comedy Festival, 2004), and the new film by Revolution, 13 Going on 30 starring Jennifer Garner. Egan has also lead such films as Gotta Kick It Up for the Disney Channel and several independents including The Disappearing Girl Trick, Falling. In Love, Extreme Close Up, and Man of the Century, which won the Audience Award at Slamdance.

In animation, Egan gave the sultry voice to Meg in Disney's Hercules, sang the role of Angel in Lady and the Tramp II, and rendered Lin in English for the American release of the Japanese blockbuster Spirited Away, which won the 2003 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Egan has also recorded the English translation for another Miyazaki film, Porco Rosso, which will be released August of 2004.

On television, Egan spent two seasons on the WB's Nikki, and has appeared on NYPD Blue, Arliss, Party of Five, Drew Carey, Almost Perfect, Partners, All My Children, Loving, and Great Performances: Rodgers and Hart, as well as movies of the week and specials for ABC, CBS, and the Disney Channel.

Egan has just completed recording her third solo CD, Coffee House on LML Records. Her debut CD of Broadway hits Susan Egan, So Far on JAY Records, has received high critical praise, as has her compilation solo CD All That and More on the Fynsworth Alley label. She can be heard on over thirty other recordings for Fynsworth Alley, JAY, Disney compilation disks, the Broadway cast recordings of Beauty and the Beast and Triumph of Love, and the motion picture soundtrack of Disney's Hercules, Spirited Away, and Porco Rosso.

Egan is a Southern California native and attended the Orange County High School of the Arts and UCLA, where she received a Carol Burnett Award in Musical Theatre. In 2002-2003, she devoted a year away from her career to assume the position of interim Artistic Director of the Orange County High School of the Arts.

Entertainment Weekly calls Egan's website, www.susanegan.net, "the slickest site around."
