The Dutch lighting designer WIJNAND VAN DER HORST graduated in 1996 in Theatre Electronics and Technology. He first started working as a lighting technician in the world of theater and entertainment and worked on all different kind of productions. In 2004 he specialized in creating light designs for opera, ballet and theater productions. But also events, exhibitions and architectural lighting is part of his field of work.
In his work the starting point is always to shape a space with light. Form, direction, rhythm and color are his partners here. Also on the side of dramaturgy he creates a link between him as a designer and the essence of the work. He like’s to be creative and turn his own vision into visual imagery that finally leads up into a practical light design. Empathy is his key in collaborative context here.
He has made light designs for The Dutch National Opera, the Dutch National Ballet, the Van Gogh Museum, worked with choreographers Juanjo Arques, Peter Leung and Shen Wei and many others
