THE GRAMMY MUSEUM ADDS GUSTAVO DUDAMEL ARTIFACTS TO ENDURING TRADITIONS EXHIBITION

WHAT: The most recent update to The GRAMMY Museum at LA LIVE’s Enduring Traditions exhibition features several artifacts from LA Phil Music Director Gustavo Dudamel. Unveiled on February 19, 2013, the additions celebrate the accomplishments of the conductor and his impact on the LA Phil and the Los Angeles community.

Tails from Dudamel’s LA Phil Inaugural Gala, the baton from Bienvenido Gustavo! at The Hollywood Bowl, photography from memorable performances and his original score, with markings, of John Adams’ City Noir are among the artifacts recently added.

The exhibit also features items memorializing Gustavo Dudamel’s commitment to education, including a paper violin given to him by the first class of students participating in his Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA) program and original portraits of Gustavo gifted to him from young students around the Los Angeles area. Through YOLA – inspired by Venezuela’s revolutionary El Sistema – the LA Phil and its community partners provide free instruments, intensive music training, and academic support to students from underserved neighborhoods, enabling every child to contribute using their full potential. Over the last four years, YOLA has grown to serve over 500 students ages 2-17 in South L.A. and the Rampart District.

Located on the fourth floor of The GRAMMY Museum, the Enduring Traditions exhibit offers audiences the opportunity to experience the careers of artists who have made significant contributions to American musical traditions from a variety of genres.
