WHAT:             

World-renowned tenor Plácido Domingo joins Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic for the first time in concert together for an unforgettable evening of arias and songs on Sunday, August 19 at 7:30 p.m. The two longtime friends will announce the varied program from the stage, which will include popular classical, pop, Broadway and Latin American song selections.

 

Hailed as the “King of Opera,” Plácido Domingo has sung 139 different roles, which is more than any other tenor in the annals of music. He sings in every important opera house in the world and has made an unparalleled number of recordings, of which 101 are full-length operas, often recording the same role more than once, and for which he has earned nine Grammys and two Grammys in the newly established Latin Division. Domingo currently serves as the Broad General Director for the Los Angeles Opera.

 

Joining Dudamel and Domingo for this performance is Grammy winning soprano Ana María Martínez, who will perform solo selections and join Domingo in duets.

 

This concert concludes the Americas and Americans festival, Gustavo Dudamel’s first festival at the Hollywood Bowl and the second incarnation of Americas and Americans, which was first presented at Walt Disney Concert Hall during Dudamel’s inaugural 2009/10 season with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Americas and Americans at the Hollywood Bowl welcomed Juan Luis Guerra, Ruben Blades, Eddie Palmieri, Sergio Tiempo and Juanes in varied programs that featured music from both North and South America, bringing to life Dudamel’s vision of a multi-cultural community unified by music.
