HOLLYWOOD BOWL 2013 SUMMER SEASON UPDATES

JUST ADDED!:

KCRW’S WORLD FESTIVAL

EDWARD SHARPE AND THE MAGNETIC ZEROS HEADLINES
(August 4)

Matthew E. White Opens for She & Him and Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell
(June 23)

WHAT:        Just added to the Hollywood Bowl 2013 summer season is Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, confirmed to headline on August 4 with The Sun Ra Arkestra and Oliver Mtukudzi; and Matthew E. White, who will open for She & Him and Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell on June 23. Both of these concerts are part of KCRW’s World Festival at the Hollywood Bowl. Subscriptions are now available for purchase. Single tickets will be available for purchase in early May 2013.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros formed in 2007 after singer Alex Ebert met fellow singer Jade Castrinos outside of a cafe in downtown Los Angeles. In 2009, the 10 member troupe released their debut album Up From Below which featured the universally appealing hit “Home” as well as fan favorites “40 Day Dream” and “Janglin.” The past few years have been spent constantly touring the world while winning over audiences at festivals like Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Leeds, Austin City Limits and more. With their follow up album Here featuring “Man On Fire” and “That’s What’s Up” recently being released, the band will tour Europe, North America and Australia this year while a third album is expected in early 2013.

Richmond, Virginia-based singer, songwriter, bandleader, musical polymath, and visionary Matthew E. White released his self-produced debut album, Big Inner, on the newly joined labels Hometapes and Spacebomb. White builds soaring sculptures of original songs that directly reference his eclectic set of influences, while creating something entirely new on the American musical landscape. From lyrics that echo common conditions like love and death, to open tributes to artists like Washington Phillips, Allen Toussaint, Jorge Ben, Jimmy Cliff, and Randy Newman, Big Inner is its own scavenger hunt through history.

SUNDAY, JUNE 23, 2013
She & Him
Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell
Matthew E. White

Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward, aka She & Him, make music for an eternal spring, when the temperature is warm enough to go riding with the windows rolled down and the radio turned up. Grammy winners Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell collaborate once again, celebrating their February 2013 release Old Yellow Moon. Richmond-based songwriter Matthew E. White opens.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 4, 2013
Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
The Sun Ra Arkestra
Oliver Mtukudzi

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros’ carousing live shows draw on eclectic influences, rich 12-piece arrangements, and a communal vibe to great acclaim. Innovative and other-worldly, the Sun Ra Arkestra fills the Bowl with cosmic vibrations, transporting us with electronic space music, group chants, and infectious free-form grooves. Zimbabwe’s Mtukudzi opens with captivating “Tuku music” – a blend of African rhythms, quicksilver guitar work and beautiful warm vocals.
