ROBIN TICCIATI LEADS LARS VOGT AND THE LOS ANGELES PHILHARMONIC IN A PROGRAM OF EARLY 20TH CENTURY MUSIC AT WALT DISNEY CONCERT HALL

Friday’s Performance is the First Casual Fridays Concert of

the 2012/13 Season

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2012, AT 8 PM

SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, OCTOBER 20 AND 21, 2012, AT 2 PM

WHAT:       Young British conductor Robin Ticciati leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in a program of early 20th century music, at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Friday, October 19, at 8 pm, as well as Saturday and Sunday, October 20 and 21, at 2 pm. All three evenings feature pianist Lars Vogt performing Rachmaninoff’s technically dazzling Piano Concerto No. 2, followed by Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2. The Saturday and Sunday programs open with Liadov’s The Enchanted Lake, one of the composer’s favorites among his own works. The Friday concert is part of the LA Phil’s Casual Fridays series, which features a shorter program, is presented without intermission and encourages audience members to attend in comfortable attire. These Casual Fridays concerts also feature a free TalkBack discussion with musicians held on stage after the performance and a chance to mingle with members of the orchestra in the Concert Hall Café.

Robin Ticciati is principal conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and principal guest conductor of the Bamberger Symphoniker. He recently made his Metropolitan Opera debut and in 2014, he takes on the role of music director of Glyndebourne Festival Opera. He and Vogt performed together at Walt Disney Concert Hall in March 2010.

Lars Vogt first came to public attention when he won second prize at the 1990 Leeds International Piano Competition and in the 2003/04 season, he was appointed the first-ever “Pianist in Residence” by the Berlin Philharmonic and his special relationship with the orchestra has continued. In fact, Sir Simon Rattle has called Vogt “one of the most extraordinary musicians of any age group.”
