Boy playing violin, girl playing triangle, girl playing violin

The Music Mobile, an award-winning children’s music education program, was originally designed and implemented in 1974. It offers an opportunity for third-graders, throughout Los Angeles County, to learn about the instruments of a symphony orchestra through hands-on experience.

This program, presented by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Affiliates, supporters of the Los Angeles Philharmonic for 85 years, has reached over a half a million elementary grade students. It has inspired many youngsters to pursue a career in music and has sparked a life-long interest in music. Mini-vans stocked with instruments, CDs and visual aids travel to schools and volunteers present an introduction to the Philharmonic, classical music, the instruments of the orchestra, and the instrumental families in a 45 minute presentation.

For the past three years, a similar program has been established at the Hollywood Bowl. Students enjoy a field trip to the Bowl, are given guided tours and then are treated to a Music Mobile presentation.
