About This Performance
In John Adams’ extraordinary Grawemeyer Award-winning Violin Concerto (1993), the soloist plays virtually without pause, with the orchestra primarily serving as a backdrop. The strong sense of rhythm throughout the piece is connected to the fact that it was co-commissioned by the New York City Ballet. Peter Martins’ choreography for Adams Violin Concerto was premiered in June 1995. We are fortunate to have the composer conducting and the astonishing Leila Josefowicz as our soloist.
