Traffic Notice for Sunday, May 1

Several demonstrations are planned for Sunday, May 1, that will affect traffic in the areas around Broadway and City Hall. All demonstrations are expected to start in the area of Olympic and Broadway. The demonstrations are expected to head north on Broadway to 1st Street and then east to City Hall. That entire route is expected to be closed as of noon on Sunday.

Please plan your travel to Walt Disney Concert Hall accordingly for this day.

About This Performance

Please Note: Jaap van Zweden, who was scheduled to conduct the Los Angeles Philharmonic at Walt Disney Concert Hall April 29 - May 1, has cancelled due to illness. Dudamel Conducting Fellow David Afkham will replace Van Zweden.

Prokofiev's Sinfonia Concertante in E minor (also called Symphony-Concerto) is a large-scale work for cello and orchestra (premiered 1952), a revised version of his earlier Cello Concerto, written in 1933–8.

According to renowned cellist Rostropovich, who premiered the work, “Shostakovich thought that the Sinfonia Concertante was Prokofiev's most brilliant work.”
