About This Performance

Luciano Berio’s Folk Songs (1964) is a song cycle containing 11 arrangements of folk music from various countries and of other songs. These sparkling gems, whose origins range from the Appalachians to Azerbaijan, are imaginatively but subtly orchestrated, and treated with a respect one might not expect of an avant-garde composer.
