About This Performance
Life and death, light and dark: Spanish conductor Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos pairs Beethoven’s ebullient Eighth Symphony with Falla’s gritty tale of a woman wronged. Light on its feet, the Eighth is full of abstract dance gestures, while Falla drew on Spanish traditional song and dance for his two-act opera.
A rare complete performance of La vida breve, led by a conductor who recorded a definitive version and sparked by flamenco artists.
Some of Beethoven’s best musical jokes, delivered at high speed.
