PLEASE NOTE: Conductor Jeffrey Milarsky replaces John Adams, who was scheduled to lead the LA Phil New Music Group in a Green Umbrella concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Tuesday, April 10, at 8 pm. Adams has withdrawn from the performance due to scheduling demands. Additionally, Five Star Signs from Stockhausen’s Tierkreis will be performed in place of the complete Tierkreis set.

The wonderful Gloria Cheng plays Cage’s three-movement Concerto, for which the preparation is complex (including a moveable plastic bridge that makes microtonal effects possible). The piano and chamber orchestra sound together only in the last movement. Acclaimed for exploring the boundaries of pitch and noise, classical and rock, convention and invention, Oscar Bettison has composed for us a new work for percussion and ensemble.
