About This Performance
Monteverdi | Vespers of 1610
with Musica Angelica Baroque Orchestra
Considered to be the most ambitious work of sacred music before J.S. Bach, the Vespers of 1610 will sparkle with forty pristine voices and Musica Angelica Baroque Orchestra. Monteverdi’s intentions for the Vespers are unclear, but scholars suspect he was purposely padding his sacred music portfolio to land the job of Maestro di Cappella at St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice. And it worked! Since then, Monteverdi’s Vespers has become the most frequently performed and passionately loved choral work of the early Baroque era.
