Messiaen: Turangalîla-symphonie

Additional Info:

Turangalîla-symphonie is Messiaen’s extraordinary ten-movement, 80-minute “love song,” written while he was obsessed with the Tristan and Isolde story. Included in the massive orchestra is a major part for solo piano and for one of the earliest electronic instruments, the eerie ondes martenot. The title, from two Sanskrit words, roughly translates: "love song and hymn of joy, time, movement, rhythm, life, and death."
