About This Performance
Though used spectacularly by Bach, Handel, and others as an obbligato instrument – particularly in arias – the natural, valveless trumpet of the Baroque era had very few concertos. Trumpeter Balsom adapts concertos for other instruments, and also plays the suite of Handel movements, also known as the “Water Piece,” that were published in 1733, though quite possibly without the composer’s participation.
Stunning trumpeter Alison Balsom joins the versatile, conductor-less Glasgow-based Scottish Ensemble for her Walt Disney Concert Hall debut, following her Bowl debut last summer.
