About This Performance
Sibelius’ Sixth is known for its pure beauty, more contemplative and pastoral than dramatic and heroic. It displays the composer’s determination to follow his own path, pursuing a style that would distill the spirit of Finland and his own inner voice. Looking back in 1943, Sibelius wrote: “The sixth symphony always makes me remember the scent of the first snow.”
