Since its founding in 2003, the Affiliates at Large Committee has offered a welcoming and flexible way for Angelenos to support the LA Phil’s Learning initiatives. Unlike committees with a regular meeting schedule or fundraising focus, Affiliates at Large is rooted in hands-on volunteer service—connecting members directly with programs that bring music, creativity, and arts learning to students, families, and communities across Los Angeles.
Through volunteer opportunities at Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and The Ford, Affiliates at Large members help extend the reach of the LA Phil’s Learning programs and create meaningful experiences for young people encountering the arts in new and inspiring ways.
Whether supporting pre-concert activities, assisting with student concerts, or helping families feel welcome at LA Phil events, Affiliates at Large members play an important role in bringing the organization’s mission to life.

Our Impact in the Community:
Affiliates at Large plays a vital role in expanding access to music education and arts experiences throughout Los Angeles. Through hands-on volunteer service, members support programs that reach thousands of students, families, and community members each year—enhancing learning opportunities, fostering creativity, and creating meaningful connections between the LA Phil and the communities it serves.
Symphonies for Youth
Affiliates at Large members support Symphonies for Youth pre-concert art activities that help young audiences engage more deeply with the music they hear on stage. These creative experiences invite children and families to explore music through artmaking, imagination, and play.
Symphonies for Schools
Each year, Symphonies for Schools welcomes approximately 13,000 students from throughout Los Angeles for an in-person concert experience with the LA Phil. Volunteers help make these visits welcoming, organized, and memorable for students—many of whom may be experiencing a live orchestral performance for the first time.
Junior Patrons
Through the Junior Patrons program, members help enhance the concert-going experience for children attending LA Phil performances, supporting a warm and engaging environment for young music lovers and their families.
Invited Rehearsals
Affiliates at Large also supports invited rehearsals, which offer students and instructors a rare glimpse into the LA Phil’s creative process. These behind-the-scenes experiences help demystify orchestral music and deepen students’ understanding of how performances come to life.
LA Soundscapes
At The Ford, LA Soundscapes invites families to experience artmaking, dancing, and listening with Los Angeles artists—all on stage. Affiliates at Large volunteers help support these joyful, community-centered events that celebrate creativity across disciplines.
Grand Avenue Arts
During Grand Avenue Arts, Affiliates at Large members help welcome the public to an all-access day of arts and culture institutions along Grand Avenue, connecting Angelenos of all ages with the creative life of the city.
