Since many people’s lives across the globe have been deeply affected by this global pandemic, I wanted to compose a piece of music that reflected my thoughts about this unprecedented situation. Many of us have been cooped up in our homes for weeks and months now, which can be suffocating at times. Instead of constantly sounding anxious, I wanted to write a piece that will instill hope and confidence, that we, the world, will overcome this together. As it is my first solo percussion piece, I wanted to play around with mixed meters and the variety of timbres of the snare drum to convey my optimism.
