LA Phil Affiliates: Los Angeles Philharmonic Committee

Watch & Listen

Since its founding in 1934, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Committee has been a cornerstone of volunteer leadership and philanthropic support for the LA Phil. What began as a small group of devoted concertgoers has grown into one of the organization’s most enduring and impactful Affiliate committees—uniting generations of music lovers around a shared commitment to education, access, and artistic excellence.

Rooted in a deep belief in the power of music to shape young lives, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Committee has played a vital role in connecting students and families across Los Angeles to the transformative experience of live orchestral performance.

For more than 90 years, its members have sustained a tradition of service—supporting the LA Phil not only through fundraising, but through hands-on engagement with Learning programs that introduce thousands of young people to music each year.

Who We Are

The Los Angeles Philharmonic Committee is a volunteer-led nonprofit composed of individuals from across Los Angeles who share a passion for music and a commitment to community engagement. Members come from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, creating a welcoming and dynamic group united by a love of the arts. The Committee’s origins trace back to a group of dedicated concertgoers who sought to deepen their understanding of music through pre-concert lectures—an effort that evolved into a lasting organization devoted to supporting the LA Phil and expanding access to music education.

The Mission of the Committee is to cultivate in children an interest in and a love of music through youth music education programs, and to provide financial support and audience development for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra.

In the last quarter century, the Committee has contributed nearly $2 million in support of youth music education through endowment pledges and ongoing fundraising efforts. The Committee remains deeply engaged in continuing to raise funds and provide essential support for student access to concerts and learning experiences.

Our Impact in the Community: A Year in the Life of the LA Phil Committee

Annual Spring Benefit
The Committee’s signature fundraising event brings members and supporters together for an elegant and engaging evening in support of youth music education. Featuring a silent auction and opportunities to connect with fellow music enthusiasts, the event plays a central role in underwriting access to LA Phil Learning programs.

Letter Writing Campaign
A longstanding tradition, this annual campaign mobilizes members to raise critical funds for Symphonies for Schools and Symphonies for Youth. The proceeds help provide tickets and transportation for students who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend live performances.

Holiday Party
This festive annual gathering celebrates the Committee’s community and offers a welcoming entry point for new members. It reflects the group’s strong sense of camaraderie and shared purpose.

Volunteer Service & Youth Engagement
Committee members are deeply involved in the LA Phil’s Learning programs, assisting at concerts and supporting pre-performance activities that enrich the experience for young audiences. From helping coordinate student visits to enhancing interactive elements, their presence ensures that each child’s first encounter with live music is meaningful and memorable.
