Since its founding in 2015, San Marino–Pasadena Philharmonic Committee (SMPPC) has brought together music lovers across the San Gabriel Valley in support of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. One of the 11 LA Phil Affiliates, the SMPPC is a new and growing group that has quickly established itself as a vibrant force—supporting world-class music-making, expanding access to arts education, and building a passionate community of advocates for music.
What began as a handful of dedicated individuals has grown into an engaged and energetic committee whose members share a commitment to philanthropy, volunteer service, and the transformative power of music.
Today, SMPPC continues to evolve—welcoming new members, hosting thoughtfully curated events, and strengthening its role as a bridge between the LA Phil and communities across San Marino, Pasadena, and the broader San Gabriel Valley.

Who We Are
The San Marino–Pasadena Committee is a volunteer-led nonprofit composed of music enthusiasts, professionals, and community members who serve as ambassadors for the LA Phil. Many members were first introduced to the orchestra through family experiences, education programs, or a lifelong connection to music, and have since deepened that relationship through active involvement.
Their work reflects two core priorities shared across the Affiliates network:
- Supporting the LA Phil and YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles) through fundraising and volunteer service, and
- Fostering a deeper appreciation of music throughout their local communities.
As one of the newest Affiliate groups, SMPPC brings a distinctive sense of momentum and possibility—creating programming that is both socially engaging and rooted in a genuine curiosity about music and learning.
Our Impact in the Community: A Year in the Life of SMPPC
Spring Benefit Gala
The committee’s signature annual event, the Spring Benefit Gala, is the centerpiece of its fundraising efforts. Hosted in a range of distinctive settings—from private homes to historic venues—the evening features performances by LA Phil musicians, along with dinner, a silent auction, and opportunities to connect with fellow supporters. The event brings together friends, family, and new audiences in celebration of music and philanthropy.
Fall Music Salon
Held in beautiful private residences, the Fall Music Salon offers an intimate concert experience that brings audiences closer to the music. Featuring performances by local musicians, LA Phil artists, and community members, these gatherings often include Q&A conversations that reflect the committee’s deep interest in learning more about the art form.
Holiday Party
The annual Holiday Party provides a welcoming and festive environment for members and guests alike. It also serves as an important entry point for new participants, introducing them to the committee’s work and encouraging deeper engagement in the Spring Benefit and other activities throughout the year.
Volunteer Service & Youth Engagement
SMPPC members are active volunteers with LA Phil Learning programs, including Symphonies for Schools and Symphonies for Youth. They also support initiatives such as the YOLA Holiday Gift Drive, helping ensure that young musicians and their families feel supported both on and off the stage.
