About this Performance
Like a train conductor guiding travelers, a musical conductor can transport us to exciting places using rhythm, melody, and imagination—just with the flick of a baton or the wave of an arm. With the help of Yo Gabba Gabba!’s warm-hearted DJ Lance Rock, conductor Ana María Patiño-Osorio guides us to the fairy-tale pagodas of Ravel’s Mother Goose, spends a spooky Night on Bald Mountain, leads Arturo Márquez’s joyous dance across Mexico, and more.
John Adams’ Chairman Dances kicks off the morning with the entire orchestra chugging along like a train before breaking out into a symphonic foxtrot. Through colorful sounds and lively pieces, we’ll discover how the conductor leads us on a journey and keeps all the musicians on track.
About Symphonies for Schools Elementary
The Symphonies for Schools Elementary program invites students from throughout Los Angeles to experience interactive concerts that incorporate theatrical elements to contextualize the music. The in-person program includes free admission to a concert performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic at Walt Disney Concert Hall for all students in grades 3–5.
We have offered these free concerts to hundreds of thousands of children since our first season in 1919 and look forward to welcoming you into our tradition! Please direct any questions regarding programming, financial assistance, or other educational opportunities to learning@laphil.org.
