Matthew Peralta, a talented Resident Fellow with the Los Angeles Philharmonic starting in the 2025/26 season, specializes in double bass. His journey includes a pivotal role as a part-time fellow with the esteemed Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, where he received mentorship from principal bassist David Grossman and performed under Music Director Jaime Martin.  

Peralta's artistic development flourished during his time as a New World Symphony Fellow in Miami, where he collaborated with a diverse array of coaches and conductors from renowned orchestras. He also joined the celebrated Nu Deco Ensemble, further expanding his musical horizons.  

Recognized for his exceptional talent, Peralta earned an Honorable Mention in the 2022 Sphinx SOPA Excerpt Competition and was awarded the title of Most Outstanding Instrumentalist. He has performed with ensembles and organizations such as the Seattle Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, The Florida Orchestra, Classical Tahoe Music Festival, and the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra, where he served as a diversity fellow.  

Peralta's musical journey began with his time in the New York Youth Symphony, which culminated in a memorable debut at Carnegie Hall during high school. He refined his craft under Timothy Cobb at Purchase College, where he became a 2018 ambassador for the Doublestop Foundation, receiving a prized Jacob Schmidbauer ¾ double bass from the 1800s.  

After completing his studies at Purchase, Peralta earned his Master's degree at the Yale School of Music, studying under Donald Palma. Peralta has further honed his skills at prestigious festivals, including Round Top and the International Summer Academy in Vienna, learning from masters such as James VanDemark, Josef Niederhammer, and Jiří Hudec.

Currently, Peralta performs on a Kolstein Carcassi Model Bass, crafted around 2000 and generously loaned to him by his colleague and friend, Matthew Way. With a bright future ahead, Peralta continues to captivate audiences with his artistry and passion for music.
