About this Artist

Soyoung Cho, a native of Seoul, has appeared in several major international competitions including the Johansen International String Competition, where she was a prizewinner; the Primrose International Viola Competition; and the Tokyo International Viola Competition.

An active orchestral musician, Cho has served as Principal Viola of both the Curtis Symphony Orchestra and the Yale Philharmonia. She has also performed regularly with the New York Philharmonic and The Philadelphia Orchestra, participating in both domestic and international tours.

Cho has attended prestigious music festivals including the Verbier Festival Academy, Morningside Music Bridge, Heifetz International Music Institute, Toronto Summer Music Festival, and Yale University's Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. As a soloist and chamber musician, she has presented recitals in Beijing, Calgary, Toronto, Dubai, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, and Seoul.

Cho began studying the violin at the age of 5 and the viola at the age of 8.

In 2017 she entered the Curtis Institute of Music, where she earned her Bachelor of Music degree in 2022, studying with Roberto Díaz, Hsin-Yun Huang, and Ed Gazouleas. She furthered her studies at Curtis as the Mimi Lane and Robert Durham Fellow, completing her Master of Music degree under the guidance of Gazouleas and Misha Amory. She continued her education at the Yale School of Music, where she studied with Ettore Causa.
