Soprano JESSICA JONES is acclaimed for the beauty of her voice and her superb musicianship with America's leading opera companies and orchestras. She continues to make important debuts in the 2002/3 season. Her Chicago Symphony debut comes under Lorin Maazel in Aaron Kernis' Simple Songs, and she will return to the New York Philharmonic with the same work under Maazel as well as Mahler's Second Symphony. She debuts with the San Francisco Symphony in Britten's Les Illuminations under Yan-Pascal Tortelier and returns to the Baltimore Symphony for Zemlinsky's Lyric Symphony under Emmanuel Krivine. Jones continues her collaboration with Nicholas McGegan in Beethoven's Christ on the Mount of Olives with both the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra. She debuts with the San Diego Symphony in Strauss' Four Last Songs. Her operatic season is highlighted by her Utah Opera debut as Love Simpson in Carlisle Floyd's Cold Sassy Tree.
Jessica Jones appeared at the Aspen Music Festival as Madame Lidoine in Dialogues of the Carmelites conducted by James Conlon in 2001. Other recent events include debuts with the New York Philharmonic (Duparc songs under Christoph Eschenbach), the Detroit Symphony (Handel's Messiah with McGegan), the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra (Messiah), and the Pittsburgh Symphony (opera arias under John Mauceri). Her Carnegie Hall debut came with the New York Youth Symphony in music of Mozart and Richard Strauss.
Jones completed her third season as a member of the Houston Grand Opera Studio in 2001. With Houston Grand Opera, she has sung Micaela in Carmen and Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte. Other roles there have included Myrtis in the world premiere of Carlisle Floyd's Cold Sassy Tree. She created the role of Natasha Rogozhinskaya in Tod Machover's Resurrection (now available on recording).
Jessica Jones has been the recipient of numerous prizes including a 2000 Sullivan Foundation Grant, First Place in the 1998 Jenny Lind Competition - which resulted in a recital tour of Sweden - and the Opera Birmingham Competition the same year. This performance marks her Los Angeles Philharmonic debut.
