About this Artist
Charlie Cohn (b. 2007) is a pianist and composer from Venice, California. Classically trained, he is a two-time regional winner in the MTAC Bach Festival, a first-place winner at the Alice Frasier Kitchen Competition, and a scholarship recipient from the Westside Los Angeles Philharmonic Society.
Cohn started pursuing jazz when he was 14 and currently participates in jazz combos at both school and the Colburn School of Music, where his combo last year received Outstanding Performance from the Downbeat Student Music Awards. He loves jazz because of the freedom of collaboration and the wonder of improvisation.
Cohn began composing last year, writing primarily for jazz combo and solo piano. In his compositions, he draws inspiration from jazz, folk, and classical music. He hopes to continue to expand his versatility in composition.
