Alejandro G. Iñárritu

Alejandro G. Iñárritu is a five-time Academy Award-winning Mexican director, screenwriter, and producer known for creating psychological dramas focused on the human condition. His films include Amores Perros (2000), 21 Grams (2003), Babel (2006), Biutiful (2010), Birdman (2014), The Revenant (2015), and Bardo (2022).

In 2006, Iñárritu became the first Mexican filmmaker to win the Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival for Babel, as well as the first to be nominated for director or producer in the history of the Academy Awards. In 2015, Iñárritu received Academy Awards for Best Original Screenplay and Best Picture for Birdman, becoming the first Mexican in history to win these awards. He also won Best Director for Birdman and a year later received the same award for The Revenant, making him the third director in history towin the award back-to-back. In 2017, he received a Special Achievement Academy Award for his virtual reality installation, Carne y Arena, about the experience of migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, which attracted international attention for its innovative character and strong sociopolitical message. In 2019, Iñárritu served as the first Latin American president of the jury for the 72nd Cannes Film Festival.

Today, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of his landmark debut film Amores Perros, Iñárritu is presenting a multisensory exhibition resurrecting never-seen-before footage material, titled Sueño Perro. In fall 2025, it opened at Fondazione Prada in Milan and LagoAlgo in Mexico City to great reception and is on display at LACMA from February 26 to July 26. In addition, an Amores Perros artbook published by MACK featuring stills, on-set photography, behind-the-scenes materials, and cuttings from its critical reception is now available.

Furthermore, in honor of its 10th anniversary, The Revenant returns to select IMAX theaters nationwide on February 26 and March 1, and The Making of The Revenant, a collector’s book created by Insight Editions in partnership with New Regency, is now available to preorder for a June 2 release. The book offers an in-depth look at the film’s production, creative vision, and lasting impact, and each copy is signed by Iñárritu, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Emmanuel Lubezki.

Iñárritu’s latest film, Digger, a black comedy starring Tom Cruise for Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment, will be released October 2, 2026. He has also joined as executive producer on René “Residente” Pérez Joglar’s feature directorial debut Porto Rico, starring Bad Bunny, Edward Norton, Javier Bardem and Viggo Mortensen.

Today, Iñárritu is recognized as one of the most influential filmmakers in the world.
