WHAT:
Bryn Terfel, a luminary of the opera world, makes his Walt Disney Concert Hall debut, Monday, November 22, at 8 p.m. He is joined by pianist Malcolm Martineau, also in his Walt Disney Concert Hall debut, in a program featuring music by Robert Schumann, Gerald Finzi and Jacques Ibert, concluding with a tribute to American bass-baritone John Charles Thomas. The performance is part of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s 2010/11 Colburn Celebrity series, which features some of the world’s leading virtuosos.
Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel rose to prominence when he won the Lieder Prize in the 1989 Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. He has performed in all the great opera houses of the world and is also known for his versatility as a concert performer
Martineau Malcolm was born in Edinburgh, read Music at St Catharine's College, Cambridge and studied at the Royal College of Music. He is recognized as one of the leading accompanists of his generation and has worked with many of the world’s greatest singers, including Terfel.
Future recitals for the 2010/11 Colburn Celebrity recital series season include: pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard (December 1, 2010); violinist Itzhak Perlman (January 25, 2011); pianist Simon Trp?eski (February 22, 2011); pianist Yefim Bronfman (March 9, 2011); and flutist Sir James Galway and the Emerson String Quartet (March 14, 2011).

When available, choral bench seats ($18) will be released for sale to selected Philharmonic, Colburn Celebrity Series, and Baroque Variations performances beginning at noon on the Tuesday of the second week prior to the concert. A limited number of $10 rush tickets for seniors and full time students may be available at the Walt Disney Concert Hall box office two hours prior to the performance.
