    WHAT:

Conductor Ken-David Masur will replace Joana Carneiro, who has withdrawn from the Tuesday, August 23 concert with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl.

The concert marks Masur's Los Angeles Philharmonic and Hollywood Bowl debuts. He began the 2016/17 season by standing in at the last minute for an indisposed Christoph von Dohnányi last month to lead the Boston Symphony, where he is Assistant Conductor, in a program of Ives, Strauss and Tchaikovsky. Masur, who has been hailed as "fearless, bold, and a life-force" (San Diego Union-Tribune) and "a brilliant and commanding conductor with unmistakable charisma" (Leipzig Volkszeitung), again stepped in two days later to lead a performance of Beethoven's Eroica Symphony with the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra. Both concerts were notable successes. In addition to his Boston Symphony post, he also currently holds the position of Principal Guest Conductor of the Munich Symphony.

Gil Shaham remains the soloist in the program, performing Korngold's Violin Concerto as previously scheduled. Highlights of Shaham's 2015/16 season  include performances with the Berlin Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Orchestre de Paris, New World Symphony, Singapore Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, residencies with the Montreal Symphony and Carolina Performing Arts, and on an extensive North American tour with The Knights, to celebrate the release of Violin Concertos of the 1930s, Vol. 2. Shaham also continues touring Bach's complete unaccompanied sonatas and partitas to London's Wigmore Hall and key North American venues in a special multimedia collaboration with photographer/video artist David Michalek.

The complete program (which includes the recent addition of Beethoven's Overture to Fidelio) is as follows:

    BEETHOVEN            Overture to Fidelio
    KORNGOLD            Violin Concerto
    BEETHOVEN            Symphony No. 5
