  • Annual Hollywood Bowl Opening Night Benefits the LA Phil and its Education and Community Programs

    Saturday, June 17, at 8:00 p.m.

Los Angeles, CA (June 7, 2017) - The Hollywood Bowl launches its 96th season on Saturday, June 17, at 8:00 p.m. with Opening Night at the Bowl featuring The Moody Blues performing their landmark album Days of Future Passed in its entirety with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra led by Principal Conductor Thomas Wilkins. Proceeds support the LA Phil and its education and community programs.

The evening begins with an opening fanfare by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, followed by a special performance with members of YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles). The Moody Blues then hit the stage performing a selection of hit songs from their illustrious career. The second half of the show sees The Moody Blues performing their iconic album Days of Future Passed in its entirety with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra in celebration of the album's 50th anniversary. The evening concludes with a spectacular fireworks display.

Originally released in 1967, Days of Future Passed marked the first time a rock band fused their sound with a symphony orchestra and was deemed a groundbreaking concept album. The record label, Decca Records, had requested that the band record an album to test "stereo recording," which was in its infancy at the time. Behind closed doors, the band came up with the concept of fusing classical music with rock written to their own soundtrack. The result was Days of Future Passed, an album without breaks, that, today, many consider a masterpiece.

From Days of Future Passed, the song "Tuesday Afternoon" became a massive worldwide hit, and "Nights In White Satin" marked one of the first four minute songs played on the radio, reaching #2 on Billboard, and charting two separate times. The ultimate result: one of the best-selling albums of all-time.

The Moody Blues have sold in excess of 70 million albums worldwide and have been awarded 14 platinum and gold records. Their roster of hits also includes: "Ride My See Saw," "The Story In Your Eyes," "Isn't Life Strange," "Question," "I'm Just A Singer (In A Rock And Roll Band)," "Your Wildest Dreams," and "I Know You're Out There Somewhere." The Moody Blues' chart-topping, multi-platinum, platinum, and gold albums and singles have generated sold-out tours over the course of several decades, making them one of the top-grossing touring bands of all time.
