    Los Angeles, CA (July 25, 2017) - Ten Los Angeles Philharmonic concerts from the current Hollywood Bowl season will be broadcast on Classical KUSC's SoCal Sunday Night series, the station's weekly spotlight on local concerts, beginning Sunday, July 30 at 7:00 PM. This is the eleventh year of the orchestra's summer partnership with Southern California's listener-sponsored classical music radio station.

    The concerts are recorded live on select nights at the Hollywood Bowl featuring the LA Phil with a superb roster of artists and conductors. Hosted and produced by KUSC's Brian Lauritzen, the programs air weekly at 7:00 PM on Sundays from July 30 through October 1, and are heard throughout much of Southern California on 91.5 Classical KUSC, 88.5 KPSC in Palm Springs, 91.1 KDSC in Thousand Oaks, 99.7 KESC in Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo, and 93.7 KDB in Santa Barbara. The programs can also be heard online at KUSC.org. Most concerts will be available for online streaming for one week following the broadcast. Interviews and features with soloists and orchestra members throughout the series offer unique insights and give listeners a more in-depth perspective. The project is made possible through the support of the Office of Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl.

    The series opens Sunday, July 30 at 7:00 PM with a broadcast of LA Phil Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel leading the Los Angeles Philharmonic in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man. The program will also include Copland's Lincoln Portrait, narrated by Los Angeles Dodgers broadcasting legend Vin Scully (recorded July 13 and 18).  

    Additional concerts in the broadcast series include the following (all artists and concerts subject to change):

    • August 6 broadcast - Stéphane Denève conducting the LA Phil and violinist Gil Shaham in a program of works by John Williams and Ottorino Respighi.  
    • August 13 broadcast - conductor Rafael Payare leading the LA Phil and pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet in a program featuring Liszt's Second Piano Concerto and Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony.
    • August 20 broadcast - Former LA Phil Associate Conductor Mirga Grazinytė-Tyla leading the LA Phil in works by Debussy, Tchaikovsky and Sibelius, with piano soloist Beatrice Rana.
    • August 27 - Karina Canellakis conducting the LA Phil in an all-Mendelssohn program. Principal Concertmaster Martin Chalifour performs Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor.
    • September 3 - conductor Krzysztof Urbański leading the LA Phil and pianist Behzod Abduraimov in a program featuring music from Rachmaninoff and Mussorgsky. 
    • September 10 - Bramwell Tovey conducting an all-American program focused on the works of Duke Ellington and George Gershwin. Jazz virtuoso Aaron Diehl performs Gershwin's "I Got Rhythm" Variations.  
    • September 17 - LA Phil Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel leading the orchestra in the world premiere of Daníel Bjarnason's Violin Concerto, with soloist Pekka Kuusisto, and Holst's The Planets, with the women of the Los Angeles Master Chorale.
    • September 24 -Bramwell Tovey conducting the LA Phil and pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard in an all-Beethoven program.
    • October 1 - conductor Ken-David Masur leading the orchestra and pianist Inon Barnatan in program featuring works from Lili Boulanger, Alan Fletcher and Dvorák.

    One of the largest natural amphitheaters in the world, with a seating capacity of nearly 18,000, the Hollywood Bowl has been the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since its official opening in 1922, and plays host to the finest artists from all genres of music, offering something for everyone. It remains one of the best deals anywhere in Los Angeles; to this day, $1 buys a seat at the top of the Bowl for many classical and jazz performances. In February 2017, the Hollywood Bowl was named Best Major Outdoor Concert Venue for the thirteenth year in a row at the 28th Annual Pollstar Awards.     Classical KUSC, located in the USC building in downtown Los Angeles, broadcasts hand-picked commercial-free classical performances, expert music commentary and coverage of the arts in Southern California. The listener-supported station has been broadcasting for more than 60 years as a broadcast service of the University of Southern California at 91.5 (FM) in Los Angeles and Santa Clarita, 88.5 KPSC in Palm Springs, 91.1 KDSC in Thousand Oaks, 93.7 KDB in Santa Barbara and 99.7 KESC in Morro Bay/San Luis Obispo.
