Metropolis Ensemble in West Coast Premiere

at Hollywood Bowl on August 5

    WHAT:

Brooklyn-based composer of post-genre electro-acoustic music William Brittelle, along with indie-rock duo Wye Oak and New York City-based group Metropolis Ensemble led by Andrew Cyr, will perform Brittelle's Spiritual America, a series of electro-acoustic orchestral art songs exploring issues of secular spirituality in American culture, at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday, August 5. This performance will be the West Coast premiere of Spiritual America and will open an evening featuring Bon Iver & TU Dance, whose unprecedented collaboration titled "Come Through" will also be a West Coast premiere.

The Spiritual America project is six years in the making and has been created in collaboration with the Alabama Symphony, Symphony Space, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra's Liquid Music Series/Walker Art Center, the Palm Springs Art Museum, and the Baltimore Symphony. Core collaborators include Wye Oak, who contribute vocals and percussion throughout, Metropolis Ensemble, and the world-renowned Brooklyn Youth Chorus. The project premiered in full at Symphony Space in New York City as part of the Infinite Palette residency on Friday, February 16, 2018. The album will be released in spring 2019.

This concert is part of KCRW's World Festival.
