  • All-Star Show Reunites Original Disco Legends Singing Greatest Hits Featuring The Gap Band and CHIC with Nile Rogers

After a sell-out event last year, K-BIG 104 brings the ultimate polyester party back to the Hollywood Bowl on June 28 with Disco Fever II. Disco sensations The GAP Band and Nile Rodgers and CHIC, with all-star reunion of original disco stars singing their -hits. The line-up features Thelma Houston ("Don't Leave Me This Way"), Janice-Marie ("Boogie Oogie Oogie"), Anita Ward ("Ring My Bell"), Kathy Sledge ("We Are Family"), Maxine Nightingale ("Right Back Where We Started From"), and Deney Terrio ("Dance Fever").

The featured artists for Disco Fever II are responsible for some of the greatest disco hits of all time. Now, for one night only, Angelenos get decked out in their favorite disco duds for the ultimate disco party event of the summer.

When NILE RODGERS and Bernard Edwards formed CHIC in the 1970s, they brought together an irresistible mix of sophisticated soul, streetwise rhythms, and urban pop to create an innovative, original sound. That sound, in turn, helped spawn the dance music explosion of the late 1970s. From 1977's "Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)" to the decade-closing delights of "I Want Your Love" and "Good Times," Chic provided the soundtrack for the disco era (we just used "an entire generation" in the Righteous Brothers one). Now, reverberations from that success are being felt again as recent retro-disco trends sweep the global dance floor. Nile Rodgers and CHIC last performed at the Hollywood Bowl in the 2002.

The funky grooves of THE GAP BAND have made the group an audience favorite since their first live gigs in the '60s. Led by the Wilson Brothers - Charlie, Robert, and Ronnie - the GAP Band began in Tulsa when the young boys started singing and playing in their father's church. The brothers moved to L.A. where they were signed to a record deal, and immediately began churning out hit records. Four of the band's nine albums have gone platinum, producing hit singles including "You Dropped a Bomb on Me," "Party Train," "Shake," "Steppin' Out," and "Oops Upside Your Head." Charlie Wilson is one of the most sought-after vocalists in the music industry today. He works with Quincy Jones, Ray Charles, Annie Lennox, Master P, and Snoop Doggy Dogg, with whom he toured 40 cities on 1997's Lollapalooza tour. This is The GAP Band's Bowl debut.

One of the largest natural amphitheaters in the world, with a seating capacity of just under 18,000, the HOLLYWOOD BOWL has been the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since its official opening in 1922, and, in 1991 gave its name to The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, a resident ensemble that has filled a special niche in the musical life of Southern California. A hit from its very first season, the Hollywood Bowl has remained popular and accessible to a wide cross-section of Southern California's diverse population. To this day, $1 buys a seat at the top of the Bowl for many of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's concerts. While the Bowl is best known for its sizzling summer nights, during the day California's youngest patrons enjoy "SummerSounds: Music for Kids at the Hollywood Bowl," the Southland's most popular summer arts festival for children, now in its 35th season. Attendance figures over the past several decades have soared: in 1980 the Bowl first topped the half-million mark and last summer, close to one million admissions were recorded. It is no wonder that the Bowl's summer music festivals have become as much a part of a Southern California summer as beaches and barbecues, the Dodgers and Disneyland.
