Program Continues Philharmonic's Inside/Outside Seminar Series
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 18, AT 7:30 PM
The Los Angeles Philharmonic explores Los Angeles' Latino heritage with El Alma de Los Angeles (The Soul of Los Angeles), a program in the Philharmonic's Inside/Outside seminar series, on Wednesday, February 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Walt Disney Concert Hall's BP Hall. This program, the fourth in the series, explores the Latino roots of Los Angeles and the ways the Latin population is shaping the music, political directions, and culture of the city. Featured participants include musician-poet-activist Ruben Guevara; UCLA Professor Eric Avila; Chicano music historian David Reyes; and the Los Angeles-based all-female mariachi band Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles.
"The Latino roots of Los Angeles are such an important part of the city's rich history," said Deborah Borda, President of the
Los Angeles Philharmonic Association. "Through our seminar, the Philharmonic hopes to shed more light on the many contributions the Latino community has made to the music, politics, and culture at the heart of Los Angeles."
El Alma de Los Angeles is the fourth of seven Wednesday evenings that comprise the Los Angeles Philharmonic's new Inside/Outside seminar series. The series continues with The Entertainment Capital of the World on March 24; Urban/Suburban: Los Angeles in the 1950s and 60s on April 21; and Blurring the Boundaries on May 19. Tickets can be purchased individually or as a series. Tickets for each Inside/Outside seminar are $10 and can be purchased at the Walt Disney Concert Hall Box Office, online at laphil.com, or by calling 323.850.2000. All seminars take place in BP Hall at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
