About This Performance
The gathering in L.A. of the world’s finest cellists, known as the Piatigorsky International Cello Festival, results in an embarrassment of riches at Walt Disney Concert Hall, with each of the weekend’s performances featuring a different cellist in a different concerto. Leonard Slatkin provides unity through beloved music by Berlioz.
Come for: Virtuoso cellists love to play Bloch's masterpiece Schelomo (“Solomon”). The magnificence of the solo part, its overwhelming emotional range, is both unprecedented and unique in the cello's literature. Above all, the work touches the listener on an emotional level.
And more: Slatkin also leads Berlioz’ beloved masterwork.
