About the performer
Helene Siebrits
HELENE SIEBRITS is originally from South Africa. She has been a professional designer and draper for twenty eight years. Helene received her MFA in Design from the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Theatre Film and Television.
Helene has worked at several theater and opera companies in North America, including The Los Angeles Latino Theatre Company, South Coast Repertory Theatre, American Musical Theatre Company in San Jose, the California Shakespeare Festival in Berkeley, Shakespeare Santa Cruz, West Virginia Public Theatre, Illinois Shakespeare Festival, Festival Antigonish in Nova Scotia, Santa Fe Opera and the Metropolitan Opera of New York. Helene has also worked on independent films in Los Angeles with Eli Kaufman Films and the American Film Institute.
Helene has worked internationally with opera director Peter Sellars on Oedipus Rex and the Symphony of Psalms at the Sydney Festival, and Iolanta y Persephone at Teatro Real in Madrid. Helene is currently a professor of costume design at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
