LARS VOGT has rapidly established himself as one of the leading pianists of his generation. Born in the German town of Düren in 1970, he first came to public attention when he won second prize at the 1990 Leeds International Piano Competition and has since gone on to give concerto and recital performances throughout Europe, Asia, Australia, and North and South America. In the 2003/04 season, he was appointed the first ever Pianist in Residence by the Berlin Philharmonic and his special relationship with this orchestra has continued.

Highlights of Vogt’s 2012/13 season in North American include appearances with the Philadelphia and Cleveland Orchestras as well as with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Cincinnati and Atlanta symphonies, National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, and a recital at New York’s 92nd St. Y. He has also appeared with the New York Philharmonic; the Minnesota Orchestra; and the Boston, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Seattle, National, and Houston symphonies, among others.

Recent European appearances include concerts with the London Philharmonic Orchestra with Vladimir Jurowski in London and on tour in the U.K. and in Germany with Yannick Nézet-Séguin; the Vienna, Czech, and Rotterdam philharmonics; the Bavarian Radio Orchestra; the Dresden Staatskapelle; the London Symphony; the Chamber Orchestra of Europe; the Frankfurt, Finnish, and Swedish Radio orchestras; and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. He also appeared in recital on the International Piano Series in London and at the Konzerthaus in Vienna as well as in Paris, Munich, Madrid, and Rome; his festival appearances include the BBC Proms, Verbier, and the Salzburg and Montreux festivals. During the 2012/13 season he appears with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Christoph Eschenbach in London and on tour in Germany; the Orchestre de Paris with Kurt Masur; the London Symphony Orchestra with Daniel Harding; and the Gewandhaus Orchestra and Riccardo Chailly in Leipzig and on tour in Asia.

Vogt also enjoys a high profile as a chamber musician. In June 1998, he founded his own festival in Heimbach, Germany. Known as “Spannungen,” its huge success has been marked by the release of ten live recordings on EMI. He enjoys regular partnerships with colleagues such as Christian Tetzlaff; the two recently made a highly acclaimed recital tour throughout the U.S. In 2005, Vogt founded “Rhapsody in School,” which has become a high profile education project across Germany.

An EMI recording artist, Vogt has recorded fifteen discs for the label, including Hindemith’s Kammermusik No. 2 with the Berlin Philharmonic and Claudio Abbado and the Schumann, Grieg, and the first two Beethoven concertos with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Sir Simon Rattle. Recent recordings include solo Schubert works for CAvi-music and Mozart concertos with the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra for Oehms. In September 2010 he released a solo Liszt and Schumann disc on the Berlin Classics label.
