About This Performance
A frequent LA Phil guest who regularly shares his passion and deep musicality with Walt Disney Concert Hall audiences, Yefim Bronfman joins Dudamel to conclude this celebratory program with Tchaikovsky’s beloved First Piano Concerto. Earlier, after Schubert’s Fourth Symphony, Dudamel introduces the percussion concerto that the late Peter Lieberson was working on when he passed away April 2011. A performing edition of the unfinished piece, called Shing Kham, was realized for us by composer Oliver Knussen. Lieberson was long associated with the LA Phil: Esa-Pekka Salonen led the premiere of his Grawemeyer-winning Neruda Songs here in 2005.
A percussion paradise!
One of the world’s greatest pianists in the quintessential Romantic piano concerto.
